The United Nations Nuclear watchdog reported Friday that that its inspectors found new traces of man-made uranium at a site in Syria.

While the particles were found at a nuclear site, the International Atomic Energy Agency says that their composition does not match the kind of uranium associated with the location.

A separate IAEA report said that Iran is continuing to expand its uranium enrichment, despite three sets of prohibitive UN Security Council sanctions.

A senior official associated with the agency said Friday the IAEA is being stymied in trying to investigate the two countries' nuclear programs.

He demanded anonymity because both reports were restricted.

According to the IAEA, Iran has expanded the number of centrifuges enriching uranium to almost 5,000, making it harder for UN inspectors to keep track of the disputed nuclear program.

The IAEA report also said Iran had increased its rate of production of low-enriched uranium (LEU) material, boosting its stockpile by 500 kg to 1,339 kg in the past six months.
