5 am on Thursday morning we were rousted from sleep and told to evacuate our home. Richard and I live less than two miles (as the crow flies) northeast ( down wind) of Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach which lost 70 homes. We gathered a few things and fled.

Once we left, we could not get back in because police blocked the roads. That morning the fire came within two miles of our house. The Red Cross put us up in a hotel Thursday night.

Yesterday we were able to come back to our house, but we are ready to leave again if the winds kick up the fire which could easily happen. ORY
