What has happened to our standards for Commander-in-Chief?

There’s no arguing that Senator Obama is a skilled orator. Let’s remember that Obama was a lawyer before he became a senator, hence his success in rehearsed oratory. However, spontaneously speaking, Obama clearly displays an individual, who struggles by restarting his sentences over and over in an attempt to find a position in his aim to be everything to everybody. I saw a recent example of this on television. At a rally in Tampa, he stated that he was cheering for The Tampa Rays and then while in Philadelphia; he told his audience that he was rooting for the Phillies to win the World Series.

Barack Obama’s mantra has consistently been about “Change”, yet his “Change” is not accompanied by a clear agenda. With the present state of affairs, both at home and in the rest of the world, there’s no doubt that our next president will face huge domestic, as well as international challenges. Success on these challenges will depend on our president’s performance.

If we were to look at performance, the facts show that Obama has nothing much to show for his experience and performance during his short political career, either in Washington, D.C. or in his home state of Illinois.

If we decide to dismiss Obama’s lack of experience as a qualification to become our next Commander- in-Chief, we must then turn to his leadership skills and what these encompass.

Leadership is critical in deciding who will be leading our country and the free world within the next few years. At the end of the day, our decision on choosing who to follow as a leader has real consequences. The most important trait of a leader is character. Without good character, how could we have confidence or trust what a leader says he will do? Our character defines who we are. Character is a fusion of good moral qualities and determination combined with resolution, self-discipline, high ethics and judgment.

If we look into Obama’s relationships and associations (I encourage you to do your own objective research) beyond his immediate and recent political relationships, we can find consistency in socialist, Marxist and anti-American beliefs. Maybe this can be explained from Obama’s quote in his first book, Dreams From My Father. “To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists.”

From his biological father, mother and mentor, Frank Marshall Davis (well-known communist), during his formative years, his college and community organizer years, and then politician, Obama’s views and positions have been directly or indirectly infused with socialism, and radical views. Am I the only one out there who has a hard time believing that all these associations are a result of chance? Contrary to political correctness, or to what the MSM tells us, a leader’s associations past or present are not beside the point in deciding who should become POTUS. Obama’s beliefs and experiences form the basic worldview from which he arrives at many of his policy positions and the principles with which he will govern. Moreover, at the very foundation of Obama’s political career and philosophy is the belief that government-guaranteed equal rights isn't enough, what really counts is government-guaranteed equal wealth.

Let’s not confuse personality with character. They are two very distinct things. The difference is nature and demeanor. Character is your nature, who and what you are made of on the inside. In life we are put in situations that test our character. Who we are inside comes out. If you want to know what’s in a person apply pressure. It’s unfortunate that our society’s view of character has evolved into a sense of personality popularity, deprived of the steady and distinctive qualities that are part of an individual’s life which determine his response regardless of circumstances.

This reminds me of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

As Bob Lonsberry pointed out in one of his writings, in 2001, Barack Obama said he saw aspects of Nazi Germany in American society and government. Moreover, he stated that the U.S. Constitution was fundamentally flawed.

The United States Constitution is the core of America. It is both the agreement that binds the states together and the rulebook that defines what this country is. It includes a Bill of Rights that guarantees liberties – listed and unlisted – to American people as individuals.

If Obama considers the Constitution fundamentally flawed, and his own personal views contradict its very nature, how can Barack Obama uphold and defend it? How can a man who sees parallels with Nazi Germany in American society possibly have the best interest of our country? What has happened to our standards for Commander-in-Chief?

Lastly, we must also consider that an Obama presidency will lack any check or balance of power, since all three branches of government will be controlled by the same party. Can we afford to have our Constitution revised, instead of interpreted?

This election is already historic in more than a couple of ways. The decision on who will become our next president is brimming with passion. However, no matter how passionate you feel about your choice, you must not let your passion act like a blinder to reason or common sense. Both intuition and reason should play a role in your decision making process. We must try to avoid at all costs casting our vote solely based on how we feel. Let not our emotions, passions and hearts negate reason. No matter how passionate an issue may be, it can always be guided by reason. Let reason and common sense prevail when you pull that lever come November 4th!

Thanks Alberto!

It's sad that we are so close to electing a president of whom we know less than more ... every time I learn something about him, I realize how little we know of who the real Obama is ... his own accounts from his two books have become the only "truth" we are to know and dare not question ... regardless if all the legitimate concerns are relevant to defining his character and thus the way he will govern our country. At the end of the day ... it has nothing to do if he's moslem or was a moslem at one time, but a lot to do with honesty ... it has nothing to do with his color, but a lot with his character and judgment ... which IMO ... does not show poor judgment, but a deliberate judgment to seek and associate with those holding radical, socialist and anti-American views ... from his youth mentor, Frank M. Davis, a communist ... to the fact that the owner of the Chicago-based agency which designed his logo, Sol Sender ... is the grandson of Spanish novelist and educator,Ramon Jose Sender, a well known anarchist and communist, exiled from Franco's Spain ... common sense dictates that there's not a chance, that I can consider all these to be simple coincidences in Obama's life.

I wish you well :) Melek
