I saw it, and that's what they said -

Ok, so I am watching the CBS evening news last night, and I see that the State Department issued a stern warning to those traveling to China, and it went like this:

1) Expect any and all electronic devices to be compromised (no surprise here).
2) Turning your cellphone OFF will not spare you, the battery MUST be removed.

Apparently (from what they were saying), the Chinese "security" forces can turn a phone on (without it appearing to be on) and look at all the contents, so long as the battery is installed. If I understood correctly, they could also use it as a "bug" to monitor sounds around the phone as well.

Did anyone else see this, and are these warnings for real? If so, I am assuming the same things can be done here.

Thoughts?
