Understanding the odds as it relates to mathematics is not difficult. It`s like drawing to an inside or open ended straight. A simple count depending on how many cards are showing if one is playing Texas holdem.
However one can beat the odds and does all the time.
Then there is an actual frequency distribution. Monitor a histogram of the lotto numbers over a period of time and you can beat the odds. It may take 38 million draws for every number to be called an equal amount of times, but between a small amount of draws and the 38th million, there will be a definite skew of a frequency distribution.
That is in theory changing the odds and one should take advantage of it. Bill talked about a coin flip, let’s say ten times in a row coming up heads, the odds are the same each time at 50%, and favor the tails on the next flip so that eventually the actual odds over a series of flips will become equal for heads and tails.
Just my simple way of thinking without going into a more sophisticated explanation
