April 5, 2006 - DIGECOR is showing the new XT version of its digEplayer handheld IFE system at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, revealing some of the new capabilities that make it a significant advance on the original 5500 model.
Thinner and lighter, with a larger 8in TFT screen, longer-life 10hr battery and a larger 60Gb hard drive, the XT also features an integrated credit-card swipe, a USB 2.0 port and two independently controlled headphone mini-jacks. An optional 802.11a/b/g wireless capability will offer airlines a convenient way to upload new content and download credit-card transaction data and usage statistics.
New content to be offered on the XT will include games from Florida-based inflight games specialist eFlyte. XTs will come pre-programmed with selected games, some at no cost to the airline, others subject to a small charge. The XT will also support eFlyte-provided gaming, with the resulting revenues to be shared by eFlyte and the airlines.
digEcor reports that 26 carriers have chosen digEplayer 5500 to date and that several are about to announce orders for the XT.
