The population of CA would make it a sweet home for all sports, especially with the great weather in most of the state. High school sports are usually a good place to look -- the top high school football is in TX, then FL, then CA. Consistently these places turn out some great talent to be molded by the good coaches. In college ranks, coaches matter a ton. Pete Carroll is a good example of a good coach making the most of a talented team with a weak schedule. He knows how to get his kids ready for a big game.
As for where the best major sports are played? The debate will be endless, but I`ll take the SEC over any other conference for strength of schedule and great games to watch -- unlike watching USC beat up minor league teams most of the year. The SEC has two teams in the Final Four, the Big East has zero, the ACC has none, the Big Ten and Twelve have notta -- IMO, that makes a statement. We`ll see how it plays out this weekend.
As for the minor sports, I don`t follow `em. Woman`s sports are dominated by college basketball. Who do you think dominates that game with six national titles and the winningest major sport coach of all coaches? It should not take you long to get this one...lol
