January 25, 2006 – THALES Avionics says that the TopSeries IFE hardware installed in Boeing’s 777-200LR Worldliner demonstrator worked flawlessly throughout the aircraft’s world-record flight from Hong Kong to London last November.
Installed early last year as part of the business-class cabin fit for the “Going the Distance” 777-200LR global sales tour, the system was used throughout the 11,664nm, 22hr 42min distance-record flight. Thales says that the system ran at every seat for the duration of the flight without a single incident, providing video and audio on-demand and games. Passengers were able to select from among 75 films, 100 CDs and several games, viewing content on 15in seatback screens.
The system has since been transferred along with the rest of the cabin to a Seattle showroom for continuing demonstrations. “Boeing is an important part of our development in the IFE market,” comments Brad Foreman, VP of Thales’ IFE business. “Together we are making excellent progress in new areas such as laptop connectivity, TV services and wireless networks.”
TopSeries is also offerable on every current Airbus model.
