range of interoperable technologies that are still evolving.``
``Childers explained the decision to recommend a range of codecs and leave the choice to the marketplace, citing decreasing encoding costs, the ease of transcoding, and the ability to decode across multiple encodes with chips like the 8630.
FWIW....IMO....for anyone interested 8630 would be an MCU family by ZILOG....
``DCMWG sees MPEG-21 - the digital rights management
(DRM) multimedia standard - as likely to play a large role. “MPEG-4 as a toolset and multimedia codec,MPEG-7 as a metadata standard and MPEG-21 as a multimedia DRM standard together comprise a family of technologies designed to work together to create a secure digital supply chain,” says Childers.``
To what degree? Specific processor?
“MPEG-7 is a metadata standard that supports some degree of interpretation of the information that can be accessed by a device or computer code,” he says. “It defines the content of the file for the computer.``
At some point....there should/would be a non standardized difference for security reasons....The one size fits all constant issue..in time becomes a layer of nothingness.
Specific bit stream metadata is a last layer of defense used by the DigEplayer needing a specific processor arrangement.....defines a closed system.
1..In the possible event that outer layers of file encryption(used for file distribution) are breached...
2..Or in the possible event after files have been decrypted for playing...there`s an attempt to off ramp the bit stream.
``IFE has to deal with two kinds of metadata in IFE: content attribute metadata, used to provide content
descriptions for programme guides, and business rules metadata, reflecting the terms of the licence.``
There is nothing in this material that defines
the extent of layers needed for a self contained device security system...or content handling/refreshment of such devices.
After 5 years they`re at...
1..metadata issues...
2. distribution encryption...
3. a range of codecs and leave the choice to the marketplace,..
4. DRM
The security in managing personal credit card info can now be added to their list...if they`re to define self contained units.
I suspect that hardware encryption(hard drive with I/O) will be mentioned in their next clambake....not to standarzized....as there are no standards for them to emplement on....to form an IFE standard....maybe a mention for a future prospect.
Or perhaps ``leave the choice to the marketplace``
