IMO, it is about cost controls -- which also equate to profit. Wencor knew what they bought and believed they could use the IP in other ways. That is correct as many have pointed out. However, the cost asociated with a new product using the existing IP with new features was probably more than Wencor wanted to pay EDIG. So, Wencor was / is looking for another way. They may, or may not, find another and less expensive way to make their new IFE products. We don`t know.

However, we do KNOW there was a problem since RP directly addressed it.

If you put the shoe on the other foot, Why would EDIG believe it necessary to cone out with a completly new design if they did not believe they could have a problem? IMO, both companies did what they needed to do to avoid a legal mess. A legal fight could cost several hundred thousand dollars.

I agree with you that Wencor may believe the IP is EDIG`s work, but they could certainly make a case for ``work for hire`` since Boyer came to EDIG with the product idea. Nobody knows who would win. Thankfully, it looks like we will not find out as both companies moved on and left the current digEplayer deal in place, much to Wencor`s dislike.

I still believe Wencor could be a good IFE product cutomer reguardless of the strained relationship. It is all about money. If Wencor believes they can sell the eVU format to airlines at a profit AND they believe they can`t get it elsewhere, they will buy it, IMO.
