I think what Frank was suggesting is:

EPod = EPAC = Lucent

Remember, EPAC (Enhanced Perceptual Audio Codec) was considered superior to all other codecs at one time. Read about it in an old published article somebody here wrote. LOL

And if I recall correctly, there was also some litigation going on re: EPAC vs. AAC (LU doing the suing). Considering this, we may have been closer than some think....
