Sony Says Parts Of Smartphone Patent In ITC Probe Invalid

Law360, New York (July 13, 2016, 4:05 PM ET) -- Sony Corp. has turned to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in hopes of taking down a media player patent that netted a Singapore software company a $100 million settlement with Apple Inc. and is at the center of a U.S. International Trade Commission investigation.

In a petition filed with the PTAB Monday, Sony sought inter partes review of several claims in the Creative Technology Ltd. patent. Sony contends the challenged claims should be canceled because they are either obvious or anticipated.
