Anyone know of the willow moth in Alabama? I don`t know if that is its correct name or not, but waaay back in 1955 I was stationed at Craig AFB near Selma, Alabama.

We were very near the Alabama river. For a short two or three week period (can`t recall time of year) every year, what we called the ``willow moth`` would hatch by the millions and millions and millions. They would head straight for any source of light, but seemed to prefer high light poles. There they would remain until they died....what they did before they got to the light poles, I dunno!? LOL

This may sound untrue, but it is TRUE! The moths would live out their short lives and fall to the ground at the bases of all the light poles....piling up SEVERAL FEET DEEP!

The same thing happened all over the town of Selma also. I know you all recall the famous bridge in Selma! Well, at times the bridge was almost impassable due to the slipperyness (sp) of all the dead moths.

Someone here must know of this.......who else has encountered, or at least heard of this?
