November 23, 2005 – DUBAI-based Emirates has awarded B/E Aerospace a $45 million contract for the supply of super-first-class cabins for its three-class Boeing 777s.
The award follows an $80 million contract in July 2004 for super-first-class accommodation for the carrier’s A380s.
Deliveries for the 777s are due to begin late next. Some of the aircraft to be equipped will come from the new buy of 42 777s announced at the Dubai show earlier this week.
Designated First Class Suite by Emirates, the accommodation is designed to duplicate the comfort and convenience of a premium hotel suite. It is a collaboration by the airline’s in-house design team, French designer Jacques Pierrejean and B/E’s industrial design studio. Emirates says it will give first-class passengers a taste of the amenities and ambiance more usually found in head-of-state aircraft.
First Class Suite will be installed as a cabin within a cabin, entered via electrically operated doors designed to assure security and privacy. Features include lie-flat bed/seats, a vanity unit, accommodation for luggage, a private closet, AVOD inflight entertainment, and dining space with individual drinks storage.
