It is my understanding that with prejudice is a legal term meaning that the same complaint cannot be re litigated. I do not believe that it has anything to do with money changing hands. Money may or may not have been exchanged. They would bother because they felt there was possible infringement and after delving further into the process with the defendant realize that there was most likely no infringement or possibly that the defandant has nothing to go after?
