SanDisk has announced four new additions to its CloudSpeed Serial ATA (SATA) line: the CloudSpeed Extreme, CloudSpeed Ultra, CloudSpeed Ascend and CloudSpeed Eco SSDs. These new CloudSpeed SSDs are specifically designed to provide business-critical performance for the mixed-use, read and write-intensive application workloads that are becoming more and more important in today’s enterprise data centers and cloud computing environments. SanDisk combines its flash management Guardian Technology Platform with the new SSDs as well as its memory technology to become the first vendor to ship 10 full drive writes per day (DWPD), 19nm-based enterprise SATA SSDs, which gives customers longer-lasting drive operation at a better value. With the new CloudSpeed nomenclature, the drive families align more closely with the SAS-interface Optimus drives.
The new CloudSpeed SATA SSDs are specced to deliver the necessary performance and reliability of various enterprise application workloads, including: Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI), Analytics, High Performance Computing (HPC), Web 2.0 Content Repositories and Media Streaming. As a result, this enables enterprise IT organizations and system vendors to simplify design efforts for their data center systems for multiple applications.
The new SanDisk CloudSpeed SATA SSDs include:
SanDisk’s proprietary Guardian Technology Platform, which consists of FlashGuard, DataGuard and EverGuard technologies, work together in order to deliver data protection and endurance suitable for demanding cloud and enterprise data center applications. Additionally, the CloudSpeed family of SSDs also offer customers the highest reliability and data integrity by using a combination of powerful error correction and detection technology, full data path protection, thermal monitoring, and data fail recovery of up to 1 NAND flash erase block. SanDisk also manufactures its own NAND, allowing it to have complete and direct control over the design, controller firmware, assembly, testing and supply chain. This results in innovative products, enterprise-grade quality control, and supply assurance.
Availability
The CloudSpeed SSDs have are now sampling with select customers and will be available through channel partners sometime in mid-Q2 2014.
