More likely scenario: N-G wanted him to transfer to another facility outside San Diego, family revolted (very common in areospace). He was tired of big corporate beauracracy (and possibly Gov`t contracts), and was intrigued with the thought of (possibly) being in charge. Hopefully, he was also intrigued by EDIG tech and potential, and further, thoughts of leveraging his contacts in the commercial world (Aegis/Scientific Atlanta).
