Which begs the question: do they intend to expand beyond the auto train? My guess is yes, and PDQ.
Though I doubt these guys are strapped for cash, and may have some serious backing (including, perhaps, AMTRAK itself since the availability of the digE is a promotional tool), a little proof of potential via auto train usage may enable financing for many more units and routes. Solid business plan and team with some proof of even minor success in this endeavor should be enough to gain financing and/or attract more investors.
But I KNOW nuttin`!
And I do keep wondering whether ever-incresing fuel costs might prompt more train travel. I must say that I`m attracted to the idea of getting one of those ``free pass`` tickets where you can get on/off the train at will, and leisurely visit appealing places along the route. Seems like it would be a real fun, layed-back way to see some country. Just do a big loop and wind up back home, pretty much hassle and frenzy free. That`s why I like road trip vacations - get to a place you like, stay awhile before moving on. Only problem is the driving and ``road worries`` (what was that sound?, and why is this idiot going so slow?).
