Or will their applied for efforts be too broad?

Seems to me that the application applied for has a finite set of circumstance....involving security issues and the general delivery scheme when it involves portables.

I just can`t see how anyone could spell out a scheme implementing the same feature set the DigEplayer has.

The layers they describe....would/will make it hard for others to come up with a scheme of comparability ...with out infringing.
