When I buy and am committed to X qty at X pps, I put in a limit order, good until canceled. Sometimes it will take a few days to fill, but it's a flat 7.95 with Fidelity no matter if it takes 90 days which "GUC" is. It's never taken any longer than 7 biz days.
Sells work the same way.
