September 29, 2005; Hamburg – THALES Avionics today announced two more additions to the growing list of airlines who will use its TopSeries IFE system – Spanish-based domestic and international carrier Air Europa and Royal Jordanian Airlines.
The announcements come hard on the heels of the news, released last week, that Air India and Air China had also selected TopSeries.
Air Europa is to install TopSeries i-4000 in four Airbus A330s in two-class configuration. Economy travellers will view the AVOD system on 8.4in screens while business passengers will have 15in units. There will also be laptop power at every seat, plus noise-cancellation provision in business class.
Royal Jordanian is putting TopSeries on four A320s and a pair of A321s, becoming the first carrier ever to require an AVOD line fit throughout an A320-family aircraft. Screens will measure 8.4in in economy, 10.4in in business, and power and noise cancellation will be provided at every seat.
The first revenue flight by a Royal Jordanian TopSeries-fitted aircraft is set for November. Thales is also supplying the carrier with content management services and a turnkey maintenance programme.
Air India has ordered TopSeries i-4000 for retrofit on six Boeing 747s. There will be 10.4in touchscreen displays in first and business classes and 8.4in in economy. Every seat will have laptop power and noise cancellation. Thales’ TopEffects media services group will provide content support. The installation programme is under way and the first revenue flight is scheduled for early next year.
Air China has selected TopSeries for twenty Airbus A330-200s : 14 to operate on international routes, the rest within China. The international aircraft will have i-4000 throughout. The domestic aircraft will have i-4000 in business class and i-2000 overhead video and distributed audio in economy. All the installations will be line fits.
On the international aircraft business travellers will have 10.4in displays, with 8.4in in economy. Business travellers will also have noise cancellation and laptop power. The overall IFE fit also includes an external-view camera and Rockwell Collins’ Airshow 420 moving-map.
First revenue service is set for next May, with all installations to be completed by October 2008.
