Frankly, it`s anybody`s guess.
In the case of the original digEplayer, Bill Boyer of APS had the bright idea. He engaged e.Digital to execute it. They in turn brought in several sub-subcontractors - including Ittiam of India (codec) and Maycom of Korea (manufacturing) - and may have thrown in some IPR of their own (MicroOS operating system, external cosmetics), though it`s very hard to get a straight answer.
In the case of digEsystem, all I know is that e.Digital is NOT involved - their Robert Putnam told me so himself. Wencor itself is a parts distribution company with no long-term IFE expertise, and APS (now owned by Wencor) probably does not have any deep technical capability. Perhaps I`ll learn more at the WAEA show this week.
