Message: Something Worth Speculating About?

Hello all,

When I posted that I was going on sabbatical, I said it wouldn’t post again until something discernable/significant happens (Excepting Disch’s Big Mac with edig sauce.). Although this may not be absolutely discernable, what follows is perhaps worth cutting my sabbatical short, and speculating a bit more. We’ll see.

Sman998’s 9/16/11 post fascinated me. I PM’d him with the following questions:

1st Question: I have been looking at NFC this morning, and can't find any reference to Embedded Flash Memory. I am up in the air about it. On 1 hand it sort of makes sense that the confidential info be harder to get to. On the other hand, why? Why not RFM, so I can take it with me when I change phones/carriers? If I lost my phone with this confidential info on it, I would immediately change all the info with the banks, etc. If it is RFM, it changes everything for the better, big time. I look forward to hearing from you.

2nd Question: How did you make the leap from what was reported at the ASM to NFC being part of Nunchi?

Sman…’s reply commented that his 9/16 post did contain some uncharacteristic speculation. We then decided to collaborate a bit on this post, and that Spec-U-Later should post it. So here goes. It’s a mix of what is, and might happen. I feel honored:

1st he sent me these links:

The above pretty much tells the NFC to date, and Samsung’s role in it. Sman… believes, as do I that they originally invented it, and if not they are certainly in the forefront. You will see that all of the articles, except the first, refer to it as “Built-in Flash”. Whether it’s Embedded or Built-in Flash, it doesn’t sound like RFM to me. More about that later.

You will also see that power requirements are purportedly significantly reduced, and that’s the tie to Sman…’s speculation to ‘445 & ‘108. ‘445 addresses a Flash Operating System with no mention (?) of RFM. ‘108 is a Flash File System that does mention RFM, but is applicable also to EFM (?). NFC is going to be a big, big deal, and this Sman…’s tie ( Quotes from Sman…’s post: “But the key patents are 445 & 108.NFC technology has multiple uses as consumer device.”, “Following paragraphs describes the various potentials of NFC applications and also the real meaning of patents # 445 & 108 claims that could be integrated into NFC with embedded flash memory chip.JMHO”.) is perhaps the 1st notable connection to ‘445 & ‘108 anyone has ever made. Why, because everything up to this point has been overshadowed by ‘744 & 737. But look at it, ‘445 & ‘108 are valid patents that could be a key part of EFM? I simply don’t know how the power reduction issue plays into this, but a patented OS & FFS are what they are. Lower power requirements, a question of circuitry design irrespective of the OS & FFS?

The next question is: Now where does that leave ‘774? Okay, why does NFC Flash have to be embedded/built-in? Lower power requirement, don’t know? As mentioned in my 1st Ques’ to Sman… above, I simply can’t believe all handheld recording devices with NFC, which they all will have, are going to abandon SD Cards & SIM (RFM, even the IPhone has SIM(?). Having said that, the NFC gig looks to become huge & huger. No more ATM’s, CC’s, closer/confidential (?) social networking, etc. He’l, maybe we’ll eventually do away with plastic identification altogether (JK). IMO, this possible development leaves DM to pursue their strategy quite apart from the possibility that the remainder of the Flash R Portfolio just maybe be becoming far more valuable.

With regard to my 2nd Sman… Question regarding NFC & Nunchi: In my eyes the ASM presented a completely different concept of what edig’s Nunchi is, or is to be, from what Samsung is saying about NFC. You may remember that I have always felt there is a connection between edig and Samsung. Perhaps the Korean definition of Nunchi perhaps including NFC (?), edig’s Nunchi, Nunnally, and what appears to be going on now, I am thinking, Hmmm.

Spec…
