Yup, we do have the digEplayer and enhanced digEplayer. We also have the Kino, apparently ready to roll assuming all the wheels are on. I`ve been thinking about the new medEviewer and the ``soon-ness``....

When I think about it, and EDIG`s apparent new ``focus`` (which has apparently been directly on the medEviewer-type device), and the time that should have been available over the past year for the 15 talented engineers to do great things, doesn`t it seem it should be quite far along or near complete, if not completed in prototype form? I mean, what else have they been up to? The enhanced digE, I know, but the card reader should have been a piece of cake (with encription, etc., already in there), touch screen should be a pretty simple software interface, as should the ethernet capability. This should all be more-or-less ``off-the-shelf`` stuff it seems to me (please correct me if I`m wrong), with interfaces simple enough for easy application. So the enhanced digE should not have required much in the way of resources.

So 15 engineers, nearly full time on this new medEviewer platform, for probably over a year. Even if they weren`t working on this exact device, they must have been working on aspects that will ultimately find themselves in the device. How long could this possibly take? Am I way off base? It just seems that with the resources available, and the caliber of talent involved, this project should be done or close to done. I realize that the statements by the company imply that it is ``planned`` and being developed, but still....

Look at the ``planned`` functionality:

• High resolution digital LCD

• Embedded magnetic card reader

• Touch screen capabilities

• Internet access

• Voice over IP (VOIP)

• Full featured graphical user interface

• Content security

• RFID for tracking and theft control

• Access to e.Digital-supplied desirable content

Okay, the enhanced digE already has most of this stuff, except Voice over IP (VOIP), Full featured graphical user interface (or does it?), RFID for tracking and theft control, and the biggy: Access to e.Digital-supplied desirable content. Seems to me (again, in partial ignorance) that the VOIP, GUI and RFID should be pretty easy nuts to crack; just integrating existing off-the-shelf applications. Remember, 15 engineers specializing in this sort of thing.

But there`s the biggy: content. The question(s) is, would the studios hesitate to grant access to EDIG for content that is already available on the EDIG-built digE? I would find that hard to believe (partly because I strongly suspect that EDIG folks and a prototype digE were part of the APS dog and pony shows for the studios). So now, a new device, but basically (for studio content) the same device built by the same company - seems pretty simple, especially if targeted markets are identified and are enticing. The other question? Would the studios need to see/feel/test the device before considering a content deal?

In the shareholders meeting discussion, I got the feeling that they were/are in talks with studios for directly acquiring content. Can the device be THAT far behind? AND, EDIG ``expects`` revenues from this during this FY.

We gotta be close IMO.

But I KNOW nuttin`!
