Disc..as an EE can you give me a very simple explanation as to what "flash" is?

Is it the same as an OS, but at faster time? Pretty good book.."Faster".

I have asked the engineering folks at my ASHRAE chapter, which is the Space Coast, and they can not come up with something that makes sense.
