PN quote 3/14: "selective automated social networking."
I recall a heated discussion amongst friends/co-workers about 10 years ago, cell phone etiquette. Comments were made how rude and disturbing it was when people took personal calls while at work in a meeting, vacated the room or sat there and talked to family etc, or people who do same in the lobby of a Dr's office...on and on. Then there's those darn Nextel walkie talkies blasting while you are eating lunch at a nice restaurant!
Cell phone fast forward to texting...fast forward again to smart phones, now we not only have the unwanted interuptions, it is a safety issue when driving and states are outlawing their use.
This Nunchi thing is really a very simple idea, I don't mean technically re: patent filings etc, but basically placing a "busy signal" on when you do not want to be bothered.
It's similar to "out of office" auto reply for email where one customizes why you cannot be reached and will get back to people when you can. "I am in a meeting and cannot reply at this time. I am driving from 9AM until noon and will call/text you back asap...etc."
Look around you anywhere you go..anywhere! People have their face glued to these gadgets texting 1 on 1, to groups. It's an obsession to many. I even hear people complain such as, "it's that darn Bill bugging me again...I wish he'd leave me alone, but he texts me all day." So I say then don't text back and he'll get the hint...they laugh..."it's not that simple." Really???
I have been explaining to these types since the webcast and reading all the DD stuff here of Nunchi and people are really interested...I'm serious!
This is a fascinating evolution going on and will IMO have a major impact on society over time.
I get a kick out of this one...see people all the time at Costco going up and down the isles talking to their spouse saying things like, "OK, I'm in the isle where the mayo/mustard etc are, what are we out of?" Many times I asked a person, "why don't you just make a list then shop?" I get a blank look every time...LOL.
