Sony Launches PSP Video Download Service

Available only in Japan, a new service allowing the download of video content for the portable system has commenced.

Gamesindustry.biz is reporting that Sony has launched its new service providing downloadable video to the PlayStation Portable.
Called Portable TV, it will begin with free content and work its way up to pay per view TV episodes. The new service as available through Sony`s ISP company So-net and will utilize the new H.264 video playback capabilities of the PSP firmware update that launched today.
In its first wave, about 100 free downloads should be available ranging from movie trailers to independent movies while new content including TV shows, movies and music will be released for paying customers.
Customers who updated their systems firmware will also be able to use their PSP`s to sort through the Portable TV site using the new web browser included in the update and are also able to purchase music from Sony`s Connect Music Store.
Though the update allows for purchase of music from Sony`s website, the PSP can`t look through the online music store just yet.
