I'm kinda courious about this new secure format -

What is the GreenPlay format?

''GreenPlay is a new, high-quality digital video format that enables consumers to quickly download movies and TV programs to small, portable Secure Digital (SD) memory cards from self-service kiosks and play them on a wide range of PCs and consumer electronics devices. It’s the underlying format for digital video content downloaded from a kiosk directly to portable Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, just as MP3 is the format for digital music downloaded to devices.''

Our History

MOD Systems was formed in April 2005 to address the growing market opportunity for providing digital entertainment solutions to retailers. Until then, the retail sector had not been able to capitalize on the emerging digital entertainment opportunity. With shrinking shelf space and multiple optical formats on the market, retailers were not able to carry a full inventory of new releases, much less the ever-growing older catalog titles.

MOD Systems assembled a team with extensive experience in digital media, enterprise software, and large-scale deployments—and quickly went to work developing its digital media distribution system. In 2006, the solution was in place with several leading global retailers—including Starbucks and Best Buy. Consumers could load entertainment content to portable devices and storage media, or burn content to an optical format (CD/DVD).

As digital entertainment distribution technologies and trends evolved, MOD Systems further enhanced its strategy to enable retailers to sell millions of digital entertainment assets—movies, music and more—at interactive self-serve or concierge-assisted kiosks. Consumers quickly and easily search a virtual catalog of movies, TV episodes and music, and sample, buy or rent, and download the content to reusable Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, USB drives and other portable devices.

Based on its vision and successful track record, in September 2008 MOD Systems secured $35 million in funding from Toshiba, NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), and others. The funding supports the company’s global product and business development activities and furthers the retail deployments of the digital download kiosk solution for an end-to-end approach to digital media delivery.

In 2008 MOD Systems signed the first major U.S. studio agreements to distribute digital video from Warner Brothers, Paramount Digital Entertainment and others. Today, MOD Systems' digital entertainment catalog features nearly 4,000 movie titles and hundreds of TV episodes from several major studios and independents, along with more than five million DRM-free music tracks from all major music labels and several independents.

MOD Systems Retail Digital Entertainment Platform, together with NCR’s touch-screen kiosks, provide retailers with a turnkey instore entertainment distribution solution. In the fall of 2009 the two companies launched the first technical trials of the solution in select Blockbuster and Hollywood Video stores. Based on the universally positive consumer feedback, the companies prepared for a broad commercial rollout of the digital download kiosks at InMotion Entertainment stores and others in summer 2010.
