It is a given that Apple has "Infringed" on EDIG Patents. Almost 4-5 years ago someone wrote an article that was printed in PC magazine which was discussed on these pages in detail. It talked about the "Insides" of the I-Pod with the conclusion that Jobs had 2-3 Patents relating to the interface between technology and the form of the I-Pod, all of which had mentioned EDIG as Prior Art...
Jobs' $50 Billion stash is for the day DM'S Freight Train crashes through the gates of Jobs'empire. The battle is going to be fought in the Courts and the issue is going to be whether or not Apple going "Infringed" on EDIG Patents, but how much EDG will take to go away. It is then that the $50 Billion will be useful...
Oh, they have some "defenses", and I am sure Apple will buy the best legal representation $50 Billion can buy. But at end it will come down to "HOW MUCH"...
Heck, just like you said, what is $5:00 Billion, when you have $50 Billion under the matress?...
