I just bought a 16 gig flash drive. It weighs about 2 ounces.
30 years ago, the 7 platter removable disks I used were a wee bit heavier and stored a wee bit less.
To get the same storage capacity the number of disks needed would weigh just over 7000 pounds. Try putting that in you pockect and walk around.
