I have been asking questions of management via e-mail, phone, and in person at SHM's and one on one visits for 10+ years. Unless I ask a far to reaching question that enters into corporate confidentiality, that could harm the company, I get an answer that makes sense, whether it covers everything I want to know or not, so I leave it at that.

There are times that my questions cross the line, not purposely, but when I do, get a reply such as..."in as much as we would like to be more forth coming with share holders, this is an area that we cannot discuss. I trust you can appreciate topics such as this, to be kept company internal/confidential."

I am satisfied to the answer of my questions from day one.
