"At this point Edig's products are really, for all the reasons we all know, problematic."
I am guessing that in 3 years time, give or take, EDIG will be off and running in completely new directions as a result of opportunities presenting based on successful IP litigation. That is not to say they won't continue on the eVU path but their options will be many, imo. Either they exit that field or experience some sort of consolidation, imo, possibly selling their eVU division or merging/acquiring competitors.
I would be quite happy to wake up to an eVU surprise but results speak to the contrary. It does serve as a baseline service business with recurrent revenues, which for a small company the size of EDIG is not insignificant, however, it has not proven to be a home run yet either.
IP litigation offers the homerun scenario, and as I reported yesterday on a small company winning a $200 million settlement against Microsoft indicates not all settlements are alike.
