Panasonic eX2 now offerable on Boeing 777
June 24, 2005 - PANASONIC Avionics has announced that its new eX2 IFE system is now technically offerable on the Boeing 777. First aircraft deliveries with eX2 installed are expected to begin in September next year.
Panasonic describes eX2 as a fourth-generation evolution of its current eFX and System 3000, designed with the emphasis on reduced system weight, power demands and lifecycle costs, improved reliability and new functionality.
Based on a 1Gb Ethernet backbone, eX2 will offer pre-flight online access for passengers, allowing them to register meal preferences, create playlists and request connecting-gate information.
Line and retrofit installations of eX2 on other Boeing types besides the 777 are due to begin next year.
