PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2005--

New MT2262 Tuner is Industry`s First Single-Chip Tuner for TV-on-Handheld Devices That is Optimized for the Single-Band U.S. DVB-H Network

Microtune(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:TUNE), inventor of and a market leader in single-chip TV tuner technology, today added the industry`s first dedicated L-Band tuner to its new family of mobile TV tuners. Complying with the digital video broadcast-handheld (DVB-H) industry standard, the new Mobile MicroTuner(TM) MT2262 is a specialized, ultra low-power silicon TV tuner that supports the L-band frequency range (1670-1675 MHz) licensed for mobile broadcast TV services in the U.S. It enables manufacturers to target the U.S. market in bringing high-quality broadcast TV and digital entertainment services to cell phones, laptops, PDAs and mobile handheld devices with a cost-optimized solution.

Built with Microtune`s patent-pending Mobile MicroTuner technology, the MT2262 is a sister device to Microtune`s MT2260 multi-band DVB-H TV tuner, the first member of the product line which the company unveiled two weeks ago.

``Consistent with our pioneering silicon tuner product strategy, our Mobile MicroTuner portfolio will offer customers choice,`` said James A. Fontaine, President and CEO of Microtune. ``Our multi-band DVB-H tuners provide a flexible, common platform for manufacturers to develop handsets for worldwide markets without re-engineering hardware or software. Now, our single-band MT2262 tuner permits manufacturers to target the U.S. with a cost-optimized solution for Crown Castle`s planned DVB-H network. It also offers all the differentiating advantages of our Mobile MicroTuner technology -- high functional integration, very low power and design flexibility.``

Fabricated in silicon germanium, the MT2262 is a single-chip tuner, engineered to deliver a low noise figure for outstanding sensitivity, high linearity for reduced interference and excellent phase noise for maximum video fidelity.

Unlike competitive products, the MT2262 L-band tuner includes all active circuitry required to implement the complete radio frequency (RF)-to-baseband tuner function. A single-ended architecture eliminates the need for a transformer balun, while the L-band low noise amplifier (LNA) has also been fully integrated. These design approaches reduce components, cost and power -- key considerations for manufacturers in driving mobile TV capability into high-volume handsets.

The MT2262 operates from a 2.7V power supply and consumes 20-40 milliWatts in `viewing` mode, depending on the severity of the reception environment. It features 9-milliWatt power-down and 250-microWatt sleep modes to further conserve battery power. As with the multi-band MT2260 tuner, this low-power consumption enables mobile phone manufacturers to give viewers up to 10 hours of TV viewing time on 2-inch or 4-inch displays using 800mAh or 1300mAh batteries, respectively, for their DVB-H handsets.

The MT2262 measures only 6 x 6-square millimeters and is offered in a 40-pin QFN package. Its miniature size is ideally suited to the significantly reduced footprint designs of leading mobile phone and handheld device manufacturers for their DVB-H handsets. Additionally, the MT2262 is designed to interface directly with leading DVB-H demodulators, providing handset manufacturers the design flexibility to choose the optimum tuner-demodulator combination for their needs.

As a member of the Mobile MicroTuner family, the MT2262 L-Band tuner is pin-compatible with the multi-band MT2260, enabling manufactures to use the same designs and software for greater efficiencies and accelerated time-to-market in developing a family of DVB-H devices.

Price and Availability

The MT2262 tuner is sampling starting in July and will be priced at $4.00/unit in quantities of 10,000.

New Product Announcements

It is not unusual for Microtune to announce new products of this kind, and the announcement of this product, or any other product, should not be viewed as an indicator of Microtune revenues for any current or future reporting period. The market for handheld digital television may not develop or may develop more slowly than currently anticipated. Even in the event that the market does develop, there can be no assurance that Microtune`s MT2262 or any other Microtune handheld tuner will be selected by handset manufacturers or that if selected, such manufacturers will continue to select Microtune`s products in the future to support their handsets and other mobile devices.
