Thales has adopted the i-4500.. a hard wired network system...placing the CPU equipment under the cabin floor.

It`s to supersede the i-4000 which utilized a wireless RF network ..with the equipment under the seats.

There must have been a problem with the wireless network arrangement....

Newly placed systems will utilize the i-4500 scheme and the i-4000 currently in service from what I have read.. are to be refitted.

The displays of the i-4000 are to be re utilized for the retrofit.

The equipment under the floor as well as the seat display.. will require infrastructure for power and network at both points.....

Content is then served up from head end equipment with a two way communication.

There`s no credit card reader as far as I can see....so I have no idea where revenue is generated from.

As for the DigE...they are self contained wireless network units...employing varying degrees of complexity....with a credit card reader.

They can be configured for one way wireless communication...form a data loader.. allowing secure passage of content refreshment....or for future developments of two way interactive communication with head end equipment.

The units can be quickly changed out utilizing a special key.

There is no requirement of headend equipment to implement the system....IMO head end.. would be better utilized for other services as they advance and become available....such as ground to air or satellite communications.

With the consideration of the above...my concerns lie in what e.Digitals contribution are.

Their contributions deal with the communication authentication...be it wired or wireless...makes no difference. Along with storage device encryption..be it a flash device or hard drive.

Those two represent the two main protective ingredients of the digEplayer, however that is not there only involvement in the system. Other values will lie at the embedded level of the device employing different degrees of low level device management. One of the considerations will be in management of content upgrading and erasing of old content...all managed with time sensitive constraints automatically.

The service of the storage device encryption will protect the Linux environment along with what ever applications it employs.

Other content types are also protected.

As for premium content it allows for a double encrypted content environment.

If e.Digital IP is not in the digEsystem....it was never in the digEplayer.
