Air Canada Jazz last week took delivery of the first of 15 Bombardier CRJ-705s it plans to add to its fleet this year.
The Jazz aircraft are configured for two classes of service, with 10 seats in Executive Class. Both cabins have all-leather seating and in-seat audio and personal television systems that will be installed beginning in the fall. The aircraft will begin commercial service between Calgary and Houston today; other routes planned for the first two CRJ-705s are Toronto-Houston and Toronto-Dallas.
Separately, Air Canada recently inked a deal with B/E Aerospace to do retrofit and upgrade the seating on 143 planes. B/E will build and deliver its Spectrum coach and first-class seating for the carrier`s Hospitality Service and Executive Class seating on its narrowbody fleet and new CRJs. Air Canada`s widebody aircraft will also get B/E`s Spectrum coach-class seating. B/E estimates the contract is worth $50 million, and deliveries will start late this year.
