New player in the hand-held IFE market

Panasonic Avionics is to enter the hand-held in-flight entertainment (IFE) system market by adding a family of portable players to its product line.

The firm, recently rebranded from Matsushita Avionics Systems to the Panasonic name, plans to launch its new Portable Media Player range with an 18cm product in the second half of the year.

Further larger models with enhanced functionality will follow next year.

Portable units are an increasingly popular low-cost IFE alternative which enable airlines to offer film, music and games content to passengers.
