Apple had no problem selling the concept of the ipod, at a high price with few features, in the face of competition with lower prices. Jobs hyped the ipod prior to its arrival and followed through with a stellar marketing effort, which is still in force today.
It appears everyone else is willing to sit back and wait for the next visionary to steal their thunder.
