SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - PortalPlayer Inc. (PLAY) Thursday after the closing bell reported first-quarter earnings of $7.8 million, or 31 cents a share. Last year, the company reported a loss of $2.4 million, or $15.37 a share. Revenue for the quarter was $44.5 million vs. $10.2 million last year. For the second quarter, the company forecast earnings of 19 cents to 25 cents a share on revenue of $41.6 million to $47.6 million.``
