May 23, 2005 - CONNEXION by Boeing has announced the content providers for the four channels of inflight television to be offered aboard selected Singapore Airlines flights from this summer.
The channels will be delivered via the Connexion Ku-band satellites to the aircraft and then via the cabin wireless LAN to passenger laptops. The suppliers are BBC World, EuroNews, Eurosportnews and CNBC/MSNBC.
The BBC World international news and information channel broadcasts globally in English 24 hours a day. It combines hourly news programmes with the best of the BBC’s documentary, factual and lifestyle series.
EuroNews broadcasts round-the-clock, providing live coverage of the day`s world, business, European and sports news, interviews with top world leaders, and comprehensive weather forecasts. Programming is in seven languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Eurosportnews operates 24 hours a day, delivering sporting video highlights, headlines, real-time scores and news bulletins every 15 minutes.
NBC Universal Cable is making available either CNBC, CNBC Europe or CNBC Asia, depending on where flights originate, and MSNBC programming, which will be available within the United States. CNBC supplies real-time financial market news and other business information to more than 175 million homes worldwide. MSNBC, a partnership by NBC Universal and Microsoft, delivers news and in-depth coverage.
Singapore Airlines currently offers Connexion service on selected long-haul flights, including Singapore-London, and is progressively introducing it on other routes. Following its introduction on SIA, the television service will be extended later this year to other Connexion-equipped carriers.
