Apple says 128,000 laptop batteries may be defective

MANHASSET, N.Y. — Apple Computer Inc. said Friday (May 20) it is recalling 128,000 lithium-ion battery packs because of concerns over possible overheating.
Apple (Cupertino, Calif.) has received six reports of batteries overheating, including two in the U.S., according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The affected batteries, made by LG Chem Ltd. of South Korea, are used in Apple`s 12-in. iBook G4, 12-in. PowerBook G4 and 15-in. PowerBook G4, with model numbers A1061, A1079, and A1078, respectively.
Apple recalled model A1045 lithium-ion batteries used in its 15-in. PowerBook G4 last August.
Apple recommends that users of the affected batteries contact the company for a free replacement.
