That as you state is one area that has difficulty stamped all over it.
We see the same situation trying to compete with foreign made goods, especially China with their labor rates so low their cost structure is substantially different from ours.
As to pension problems, we need to establish laws that require companies to fund all pension requirements at least annually, and into a trust that they cannot touch.
Somehow as with many issues, our government and other responsible entities let important things slip through the cracks resulting in very little protection for the ever forgotton consumer/worker.
