IMHO Ethernet enabled digeplayers has to do with the card swipe function being designed into the 2nd generation digEplayers as reference by Tracy Decuir`s article from the Shepard website. Credit card data would be stored on the hard drive and downloaded on a daily basis. I suppose it could also be used to update content as well.
