While doing some DD on other spec stocks like EDIG who have patent claims working through the court system, I see some common and, IMO, positive elements:
-
PTSC made a large run to ~2.25 pps; then got beat back and waited two+ years to get their day in court. EDIG had a similar run but to a much higher level during the "good ole days" of the tech bubble. Both trying to make something happen outside their IP claims. EDIG would seem to be in much better shape today.
-
RMBS has been up and down and now has some new tech as well as multiple billion dollar+ claims outstanding with some of the same companies EDIG has on it's known and presumed list of mean ole copy cats -- Samsung being the largest. Most of the CE world's big brands and computer makers will be using RMBS, but to what degree? Microsoft releases "7" later this year with 64 bit tech, so lots of DRAM to be bought? Maybe RMBS gets the deals or maybe not. They have been in a legal battle of some sort for many years.
-
TIVO same as RMBS but they have had a win recently over DISH / Ecostar and look to receive a pile of much needed cash in the lump form and ongoing royalties for DVR devices. Then, they will go after every other DVR vendor.
-
TSRA mentioned here by DanL made a big run from 16 to 27 since he posted and signed a royalty deal with MOT. Like EDIG, they have several mean ole copy cats on the hook, but waiting for more settlements. Most of these IP claims have been in the works for years. Sound familar?
There are several other litigation plays but the point is most of these companies have had prolonged waits, but it was well worth it for the long term shareholders at some point. Each had their day in the sun with a nice run and all are still kickin' (PTSC is probably in the worst shape of any listed above). If you read posts about each of the above you will see a long list of bashers and naysayers with plenty of the common "this stock is POS" style of BS prior to their respective runs and / or court wins. EDIG is in good company.
Full disclosure: I am long TSRA, PTSC, and, of course, EDIG with only TSRA in the green numbers and, of course, I own the least amount of shares in TSRA. Murphy rides again, but I'm going to kick his arse one of these days....or not. Time is on my side if history has anything to do with it.
Just some musings from a big dumb guy from Tennessee and worth what you paid for it....
