``digEsystem is based on digEplayer, with the exception that the passenger unit - called the the Embedded Digital Video Player (eDVP) - will run off standard in-seat power from Astronics, KID-Systeme or Page Aerospace and will have an IEEE 802.11a wireless network capability.``
The I/O authenticator allowing the access is configurable...IEEE 802.11a is a standard protocol....the USB2 is a standard protocol....content is managed with a specialized proprietary protocol set....on the digEplayer its all managed through the same port.....on the DigEsystem they added a USB port....however there is only one hard drive to the system....so access is going to run back to the authenticator for controlled access....That specialized protocol is managed by something....and it aint Linux.
The seat power means nothing when it comes to the security issue.
So why is RP quoted as saying```````Secure content is king.`` ``Content is what everything is all about`` ``We believe the DP is an important part of our business but on into the future it will play a lessor role.`` ``THERE ARE MANY, MANY AREAS WE ARE INVOLVED RIGHT NOW THAT WILL PROVIDE US WITH MORE STABLE AND LUCRATIVE RETURNS.``
digEsystem...
``In a typical installation, the aircraft will have a docking station in each seatback, allowing the airline to fine-tune its IFE provision by installing eDVPs in any seat, zone or cabin, on the ground or in flight. Airline staff will be able to add or remove the eDVP in less than a minute, using a simple security installation tool that will be small enough to fit on a key-ring but complex enough to discourage theft. A quick-disconnect system will allow cabin crew to easily remove and replace defective units in flight.``
``In a basic installation, each eDVP would hold its content on a 60Gb hard disc, so that no head-end equipment is needed. But a central media server and wireless access point are in development to support the extra interactive functions``
DigEplayer is a self contained unit...DigeSystem is a self contained unit....
Would they change the specialized processor scheme ?..
Would they change the Hard drive encryption scheme ?
Would they change the special content file decryption scheme?
Would they change the specialized authenictor scheme ?
How would they drive the embedded mechanisums of the system ?
As I see it...someone is telling the story different than Decuir.....because he says nothing with respect to embedded Linux management of the underpinnings.
He says.....``Also fitted with a stereo audio jack on the front panel, the eDVP has built-in button controls for on/off, brightness, channel and volume. Its hard disc contains the Linux operating system, a suite of applications, an HTML browser, and a library of content such as audio, video and other media forms.``
That management is all high level application......not embedded.
