What I deduce from your post...

1. He is very confident in allowing you to walk away some what disappointed on specific information knowing where it will end up.....

2. Or he is trying to end the business...giving a total impression of the company IP not being important for anything in the future...if it`s not good there it`s not necessary anywhere....lol
