The COACH single-chip processors power digital camera models from manufacturers such as Casio, Emerson, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Pure Digital, Samsung, Sony, Vivitar and others.
“At PMA, Zoran demonstrated the COACH 12 digital camera processor’s advanced new features including noise reduction, real-time lens distortion compensation, real-time lighting correction for High Definition video, and accurate color rep roduction capabilities. There will be new camera models from top-tier brands using the COACH 12 processor coming to market later this year,” said Ohad Meitav, vice president marketing Zoran’s digital camera product line.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zoran Corporation
(Nasdaq: ZRAN) announced that its highly integrated seventh generation COACH
(Camera On A CHip) processor is available in sample quantities to digital
camera manufacturers.
Zoran will demonstrate the entire range of high-end features, including
affordable DVD quality video capture, enabled by the powerful internal
processor of the COACH 7 at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show
in Las Vegas from February 12 to 15.
COACH 7 offers new connectivity options, expanding beyond the personal
computer. Pictbridge is now supported for printing directly to most standard
printers. The on-chip USB 2.0 interface supports high-speed "On-The-GO"
connections for up to 480 megabits per second data transfers. The COACH 7 can
serve as the host or the peripheral.
Based upon Zoran's renowned DVD recording technology, the COACH 7's
TruDV(TM) compression technology offers full VGA resolution at 30 frames per
second using MPEG4 compression and a unique encoding process that provides
excellent video quality at high compression rates. This complete MPEG4
recording solution is provided to customers with firmware and PC drivers and
is more cost effective than other similar compression solutions.
The COACH 7 sets a new standard in still image capture quality and yet has
a short click-to-click time of less than one-half second for a 4-megapixel
capture. COACH 7 expands memory card support to Memory Stick Pro and on-chip
audio capabilities have been enhanced to support high quality music playback.
"Today consumers are buying digital cameras to share their photos. Soon
they will be able to share their video clips as well. Zoran's COACH 7's TruDV
enables digital camera users to capture, share and playback DVD quality video
clips," said Coby Sella, vice president and general manager, Zoran's Digital
Camera division. "Zoran's COACH solutions complement new sensor and memory
card technology with an optimal processor that enables affordable high quality
digital cameras and cell phones now to include video capture capabilities."
"46 million digital cameras were sold worldwide during 2003 and we expect
to see annual unit growth rates at 20 percent for the next five years," said
Chris Chute, research analyst at IDC. "Expanding the camera functionality to
include DVD quality clip video recordings is one of the key trends we expect
to see over the next couple of years."
Digital camera manufacturers have two versions of COACH 7 to select from:
the COACH 7e targeting the entry-level CMOS cameras and the COACH 7p with
additional features for professional-level high-resolution CCD-based cameras.
The COACH 7-based reference designs from Zoran enable manufacturers to
bring these new digital camera offerings quickly to market. COACH 7 maintains
firmware compatibility with the previous generation COACH 6, so that all
customer and third party development efforts are preserved while migrating to
COACH 7.
Previous versions of the COACH single-chip processor power camera models
from manufacturers such as Casio, Concord, Kodak, Minolta, Pentax, Ricoh,
Samsung, SiPix, Toshiba, Vivitar and others. New models and brands using the
COACH processor will be announced during PMA.
