Management
Cambis Joseph Farahmandi
President
C. Joseph Farahmandi has over thirteen years of experience in the development and commercialization of electrochemical energy storage systems. He is inventor on eleven US patents and over thirty foreign patents in this evolving field. Prior to forming Ionix he served as Director of Energy Storage Products at Qualmag, and Director of Product Development at Maxwell Technologies, Energy Products Division. He has served as principal investigator on over $14 million of energy storage research and development contracts.
In 1998, he and his development team received the Most Innovative New Product Award from Connect, University of California, San Diego -- Division of Extended Studies, for the PowerCache, Ultracapacitor product line. In 1999, the 223 PowerCache Ultracapacitor also received the Product of the Year Award from Electronic Products Magazine.
Mr. Farahmandi earned his Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University and a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering also from Brigham Young University. A selected list of past publications and patents can be found on this website.
David Diplock
Research Engineer
Mr. Diplock has been designing and developing software and data acquisition systems for the past 12 years. Before joining Ionix he served as a Senior Product Developer with Peregrine Systems, and has extensive experience in the fields of real time data acquisition and software control. Prior to joining Peregrine Systems, Mr. Diplock was a Senior Software Engineer at L3 Communications. While at L3 Communications, he led a team of programmers in the complete ground-up design and implementation of a distributed control application for the Automated Data Acquisition System program. The system was designed to collect and process data from thousands of channels at rates of up to 48,000 samples per second. Initial versions of this system were developed in cooperation with NASA under the Dual Use Program, and were deployed on the Space Shuttle`s Mobile Launch Platform. Subsequent versions were developed with the US Air Force under the Commercial Operations and Support Savings Initiative and deployed in jet engine test cells.
Mr. Diplock holds MS and BS degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Chenniah Nanjundiah
Research Consultant
Dr. Chenniah Nanjundiah has been working as a senior research scientist for the past 20 years. Prior to joining Ionix he worked for Maxwell technologies developing advanced electrochemical capacitor designs. During his six-year tenure he managed a technical staff; developing pilot production designs of several products, including an AAA size electrochemical capacitor, thin film capacitor electrode technology, and hermetic and non-hermetic package designs. He also served as part of a high volume production team producing large electrochemical capacitors for hybrid vehicle applications. Before joining Maxwell he worked as a research scientist developing lithium battery technologies including: electrolyte and ionic solvent development and integration of such technologies into innovative battery systems. He has also work in other electrochemical research areas including photocells, molten salts, and electrochemical decontamination of organic pollutants. He is inventor on four US patents with three additional applications pending. He has written over 30 journal publications and technical reports and served as editor in ``Advances in Electrochemical Capacitors and Hybrid Power Systems,`` an Electrochemical Society Technical proceedings volume.
Dr. Nanjundiah has a PhD in electrochemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
