April 30, 2005 – ALL Nippon Airways is about to receive its second Connexion by Boeing-equipped 777-300ER, and the first to receive the satellite broadband capability on the production line.
The Japanese carrier has ten 777-300ERs on order. It introduced the Connexion service, branded ANA@AIR, in November aboard its first 777-300ER. Using their own laptops, passengers can access the Internet via wired or wireless connections in First Class, Club ANA and Premium Economy, and wirelessly in Economy. First Class, Club ANA and Premium Economy also offer in-seat power with universal outlets.
ANA plans to receive another five new 777-300ERs, also Connexion-equipped, by the end of March 2007 and to begin retrofitting the service in its existing 747-400 fleet this year. The service has been introduced initially on the Tokyo-Shanghai route and passengers pay a $19.95 flat rate or $7.95 for the first 30min plus $0.25 for every minute thereafter; other tariffs will apply on future intercontinental routes. Payment is by credit card.
The first Connexion-capable 777-300ER will be switched to one of ANA’s North American routes as soon as satellite coverage becomes available over the Pacific later this year.
* Connexion by Boeing has added Swiss wireless roaming operator WeRoam to its list of associate service providers. WeRoam offers WiFi coverage in 130 major airports worldwide, including Amsterdam Schiphol, Madrid Barajas, Copenhagen, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York JFK, Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita.
