I`m on a trip with a Boeing employee in their satellite division. He knows not of IFE but is intimate with Connexion. It`s a big, segmented company.
While our discussions are not EDIG specific from his point of view, I gained some insights into Connexion, which are certainly public info but I got a much more detailed perspective of their broadband approach.
Together we concluded that it appeared there was no competitive edge here but neither of us are ``informed`` in that arena to make a conclusive opinion.
A side note is that the a mutual friend is their VP of the satellite division/soccer dads...virtually the top guy on the west coast, but I have no desire to go there for info.
He`s a great guy and wouldn`t want to compromise him or our friendship.
We should know plenty in the days ahead.
Bottom line, imo, is that Connexion is a broadband provider via satellite, not without issues, and would/could be synergistic with a Wencor approach.
You need a laptop to connect with Connexion.
It will be interesting to see how the chips fall.
I`m not sweating Boeing`s connexion as a competitor. They are trying to sell it. Some European airlines are on board but considering they have connection issues over the polar cap limits their attaction.
Exciting times !!!
